Hiking
A network of about 300 km of varied hiking trails is waiting for you in your summer holiday! Across country you will reach refuges and alpine pastures that invite you to stop off. If you wish, our own hiking guide will show you the most beautiful hiking tours for free with the hiking shuttle and we will also be glad to provide you with our digital hiking maps with GPS.
Climbing
The Dolomites are a paradise for climbing and mountaineering: the high peeks, the peculiar shapes and – arrived at the top – the panorama! Like Luis Trenker, who was fascinated by the Dolomites and used to climb here frequently, many alpinists are drawn to this breathtaking mountain world, where white buttes, which were created millions of years ago in the tropical sea as corral reef, rise up to the sky.
Biking
Cyclists will also be impressed by Val Gardena: there are wonderful panoramic routes for both mountain-bikes and road bikes. With a network of more than 1,000 km and 33 routes for mountain bikes with tour details and road-book, the Alpe di Siusi is simply a paradise for every mountain-biker. The passes of the Dolomites have always been the biggest challenge for cyclists and are surely the ultimate highlight of a cycling summer holiday. With the breathtaking mountain scenery of the Dolomites they are among the most beautiful on earth and should be part of every cyclist's repertoire.
Every year on a Sunday in June and September the four passes of the Dolomites, the Passo Gardena, the Passo di Campolongo, the Passo Pordoi and the Passo Sella are closed to traffic and just open for cyclists. A unique experience in the course of the Sellaronda Bikedays!
To extreme mountain-bikers we recommend the event „Sellaronda Hero“ in June, starting and finishing in Selva Gardena. You can rent high-quality mountain bikes at a special price in the Hotel Albion.
Culture
Val Gardena is a true meeting point of culture and tradition. The area is one of four Ladin valleys where the Rhaeto-Romance language „Ladin“ is still spoken and taught. The Ladin language originated from a mixture of the Latin spoken by the first Roman conquerors and the Celtic language spoken by the native population of the valleys.
Churches and chapels testify to the religious life in Val Gardena and on the Alto Piano dello Sciliar / Schlern-Plateau. Should you like to find out more about the life, customs and traditions of the farmers, you will find the museum Gherdeina very interesting. With the MuseumMobilCard you can visit more than 80 South Tyrolean museums and additionally use public means of transport. What about a visit to Ötzi, the Iceman of the Alps in the archeological museum in Bolzano or a tour of Reinhold Messner's Mountain Museum on Castle Firmiano? And the Gardens of Trautmannsdorf Castle with the Touriseum in Merano are ideal for strolling and marveling.
In the summer Val Gardena Musika and the Schlern International Music Festival offer highlights of classical music.
